Pulitzer Prize winning journalist, Glenn Greenwald reports on the freedom of information act (FOIA) documents from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA-AMS) that reveal the industry’s coordinated efforts to discredit respected veterinarian and Our Honor co-founder Dr. Crystal Heath for her criticisms of factory farming practices.

Prominent podcaster Rich Roll discusses how the animal agriculture industry is shrouded in secrecy and their efforts to discredit Dr. Crystal Heath and portray her as a “dangerous extremist.”

Veterinarians, outraged by Iowa Select Farm’s use of the horrifying practice of “ventilation shutdown (VSD)” to kill pigs signed a letter and petition to the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) to ask them to declassify the method. When the AVMA failed to respond, activist groups engaged in nonviolent demonstrations at AVMA headquarters and the AVMA CEO’s house.

Glenn Greenwald’s interview with Dr. Crystal Heath, a Berkeley veterinarian who experienced industry backlash after her criticisms of factory farming.

Greenwald shows how painting professionals as “dangerous extremists” is a common tactic used to discredit those voicing critical perspectives about industry practices. The industry thrives on lack of transparency, but this secrecy places public health, the environment and animal welfare at risk.

Before the USDA’s FOIA’d documents surfaced, Dr. Crystal Heath was interviewed on the Veterinary Viewfinder podcast to discuss the cyberbullying that she was facing. After recording, it would be discovered that lies about her being a “dangerous extremist” were being spread by industry group Animal Agricultural Alliance.

NBC Bay Area covered Dr. Crystal Heath’s low cost vaccination clinic offering curbside service and proper social distancing when many local clinics were overwhelmed and could not meet demand during the COVID pandemic.

Dr. Crystal Heath explains how we must work now to build a more compassionate food system. “We are facing the repercussions of our exploitative practices that harm animals, ecosystems and our fellow humans. By considering what’s in the best interest of all beings, and building a compassionate and sustainable food system, we can create a more kind and healthy world.”

KPIX covers Dr. Crystal Heath’s volunteer work in Fiji as well as her low cost spay/neuter clinic. Dr. Heath was awarded a Jefferson Award for her work helping her community.

The Time to “Paws” podcast interviewed Dr. Crystal Heath about her career in shelter medicine, paying off debt and advice for veterinarians and veterinary students.

The city of Berkeley became the first U.S. city to set a goal to shift its food purchases to 100% plant based. Dr. Crystal Heath was part of a team who worked with activists and legislators to help make this a reality and published this Op-Ed about the importance of local government divestment from animal agriculture in the Daily Cal.

Naomi Karavani of Redacted Tonight hilariously recounts the animal agricultural industry’s attacks on veterinarian Dr. Crystal Heath saying “their desperation is laughable.”
