Description:

RACE-Approved for 1.5 CE Credits, Course #20-1158650

This 1.5-hour workshop will introduce participants to the idea of "the Link" between human and animal violence. We will then move on to a discussion of the utility of this knowledge in the veterinary profession. Following this, we will broaden the definition of links between human and animal-directed violence in order to move beyond interpersonal understandings and consider socially sanctioned violent practices to other animals. We then turn to a discussion of what it might mean to help humans and other animals who are victims of violence and how we might include this in our advocacy for change.

Learning Objectives:

Participants will:

  • Gain an understanding of links between human and animal-directed abuse

  • Consider how veterinarians might help human and animal victims of violence

  • Consider the links between socially sanctioned violence to animals and other forms of abuse

  • Reflect on the connections between human and animal rights and ethics.

90 minutes lecture time.
